Avoid Using Distilled Water on Icy Surfaces

avoid using distilled water on icy surfacesLiving in a time when extreme weather conditions are becoming the norm can be something of a drag, even for the most dedicated nature enthusiast, and particularly if you want to keep your clearing methods environment-friendly. Knowing how to rid snow and ice from your driveway or the pavement outside your house, and to how to keep the space clear, can be incredibly useful, so this week we’re sharing our best tips on how to do so:
– Even though it can be somewhat long and tedious, the good old shovel method really does work well, particularly if you’re a keen exerciser (an hour of clearing snow will burn around 500 calories), and no greenhouse gases are released/no chemicals are required.
– To help yourself and others avoid a tumble on an icy surface, try putting down abrasive materials- other than chemical rock salts- such as sand or wood ash.
– If melting the ice is imperative for you, we recommend using Calcium Magnesium Acetate, which is known to be less corrosive than distilled water on surfaces, and is kind to vegetation, aquatic life and soil once it’s all washed away.
