In the cold winter months, the air in any office or home can become dry, a problem which can dealt with using a humidifier. Of course, as with any electrical equipment, proper and regular maintenance is essential, to avoid posing risks to those exposed to the air that is released.
Experts recommend cleaning your humidifier tank and reservoir with a disinfectant every three days, putting distilled water inside the humidifier to help cut down on mineral deposits, and making sure filters are changed regularly. Observing these simple steps will help prevent the build up of mould and bacteria which, when released into the air, can trigger flu-like symptoms. In those with asthma or allergies, the reactions can be more severe. For people with young children, cool-mist humidifiers are recommended by paediatricians, as the mist from other machines can get hot and possibly scald the skin of a child who gets too near.
If you know of any other great uses of distilled water, or have a humidifier and would like to share any other maintenance tips with our readers, please do get in touch and one of our team will be on hand- who knows, we may even feature your story in our blog.
