Since we began the distilled water blog, we have strived to find new and interesting uses for distilled water, that we can then impart to you, dear reader, so that you may in turn share the wisdom with all your friends, family, neighbours, the milkman, and any other purified liquids enthusiasts that you may come across. This week, we’ve discovered something intriguing; a blog in which one credenza owner was struggling to find a way to rid the furniture of a tar smell, which was present when the piece was purchased. A simple method of wiping the surface with a solution of trisodium phosphate and tepid water (possibly several times, although this should not be done on old or antique furniture), and then completing the procedure by wiping it with a clean cloth barely dampened with distilled water, was suggested by a senior furniture conserver by the name of Don Williams. Jolly good idea, Don, say we.
We would like to stress that before you douse any of your valuable furniture or other household items in any chemical, or even distilled water, it is sensible to seek advice from experts/read any labels carefully as to the suitability of this method in your particular case, to prevent any irreversible damage. If you’d like to share any other distilled water use wisdom with us and our readers, please do get in touch or leave a comment at the bottom of our blog- we always love to hear from you!
