Here in the UK, most of our water supplies come packed with minerals; the hard water can cause numerous problems for people across the country, causing deposits in kettles and on sinks, as well as in our hair when we take a shower.
For those who are concerned about our locks being luscious- and we think that’s probably the majority-high levels of calcium and magnesium can cause hair to feel rough and dry, increasing chance of damage when styling. Not only this, but natural blondes, or those who naturally carry lighter shades of hair can turn a coppery-red colour, after long periods of exposure to hard water.
For those looking for a way to combat these effects, we’ve found a potential solution, using our very favourite product, distilled water. Being purified, distilled water ‘cancels out’ any mineral damage by dissolving them when used in a final rinse after shampooing. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use a jug, filled with cold distilled water (the chilled temperature also increases the effectiveness of the technique), and dip your hair into it to begin with.
Once you’ve done this, simply pour the water over your scalp, making sure every part of your hair is reached.
If you’ve had a go at using this method, why not let us know if distilled water worked for you? We always love to hear your comments, so please do get in touch!
