Residents of La Jolla, an affluent, hilly resort in San Diego, California, were recently treated to a peek at the future of the area’s water storage, when local scientists and engineers gave a presentation on and answered questions about the Water Purification Demonstration Project.
Senior city civil engineer with the Public Utilities Department, Amy Dorman, said of the project, “We’re studying purifying wastewater to the equivalent of distilled water and using that to augment our local reservoir supplies” when the subject was raised at a meeting of the La Jolla Community Planning Association at the beginning of this month.
Dorman went on to say that since San Diego’s water supply comes from Northern California, via an aqueduct system and the Colorado river, the city is in a vulnerable position; should any of the waterways or treatment plants malfunction, SD would certainly feel the affect on the quality of the water that they have access to. The plant would ensure that there was always water available for people living around the area.
We always love to hear about stories about distilled water– either its uses or how it is being made and used around the world- so don’t be shy and get in touch if you’ve got something you’d like to see included in our blog. We look forward to hearing from you!
