Wash your Veg in Distilled Water

your veg appreciates distilled waterFor those of us health-conscious lot who love to munch on fruit and veg, washing them can be something of an ordeal, particularly when there is so much conflicting information about what we should use to cleanse our carrots, apples and other goodies, and some that says we shouldn’t do it at all.
Recent tests and studies have shown that specialist veg-washing products on the market are in fact equally or less effective at removing dirt, pesticides, microbes and soil than distilled water in it’s glorious, simple form. Researchers at the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Maine soaked different handfuls of blueberries for two minutes in one of three different products and another group in distilled water, and for some, the results were less than surprising; the distilled water treated blueberries were cleaner than the others. There are other agencies who are advocates for tap water for food preparation over anything else, whilst some recommend a mixture of water, lemon juice and vinegar for the purpose.
If you’ve got anything to say about using distilled water to clean your broccoli and beans, or indeed anything else, or to share the other things you use our favourite liquid for, please get in touch via phone, email or through our website. We look forward to hearing from you!
