Woman Turns to Distilled Water for Washing

Lisa tried showering in distilled waterImagine this: You wake up one day and discover that taking a shower burns you skin, making in red-raw, itchy and painful. You suspect it may be something to do with your local water supply, but you soon release that coming into contact with any water has the same effect. This is what happened to Lisa Melland from Derbyshire, who has been diagnosed with Aquagenic urticaria, an extremely rare condition, of which there are only forty known cases in the world. In order to try and combat the adverse reactions, Lisa has tried many different suggestions, such as washing using distilled water, hoping that the purified liquid would be kinder to her skin. Unfortunately, this was not to be a solution, and the results were the same with filtered, boiled and salt water. The British Association of Dermatologists remain baffled by the causes, and are continually working to find a cure for Lisa and the others around the world who are having to make daily sacrifices and adjustments in order to deal with the condition.
